Sleep deprivation isn’t the sole cause of dark circles under your eyes. Other causes could be the effects of ageing, allergies and genetic factors. While getting enough sleep is crucial, being exhausted isn’t the main cause of your skin’s red, purple, and occasionally blue appearance.

You can minimize those dark spots by using at-home remedies or appropriate skin care treatments.

1) Iron deficiency

One of the causes of dark circles is iron deficiency. Our bodies’ cells use iron to transport oxygen. Lack of iron results in cellular oxygen deficiency.

You should be able to eliminate dark circles with the help of a diet high in green vegetables and fruits like apples.

2) Genetics

Along with other frequent conditions, including wide pores, a tendency to gain weight, and early onset hair loss, there are also hereditary conditions that run in families and cause dark circles beneath the eyes. Talk to your skin care specialist to know how you can fix the issue.

3) Alcohol

You may definitely attribute your dark circles to alcohol if they appeared at times when you were drinking more than usual. You already know that alcohol dehydrates you and affects your body’s blood circulation, which results in the dreaded puffiness the next day.

Reduce your alcohol intake, increase your water intake, and put on an eye mask, and you should be good.

4) Excessive sun exposure

While spending time in the sun is healthy as it is the best source of vitamin D, if you spend too much time in it or don’t wear sunscreen, you may develop dark circles. The body produces more melanin when exposed to sunlight, which darkens the skin. When you go outside in the sun, always wear sunscreen.

5) Cosmetics and makeup

Your mascara, eyeliner, or concealer may occasionally be the source of your dark undereye circles. The cause is that occasionally utilizing them causes an allergic reaction in us. Dark circles can also be a result of rubbing and scratching while putting on and removing makeup. Always make sure the product is a good fit for you, and use caution when applying and removing it.

6) A surplus of screen time

Unfortunately, spending too much time in front of a screen can put a lot of strain on the blood vessels around your eyes, making them work harder.

The skin around these blood vessels often appears darker when they enlarge. We know you can’t avoid them entirely, but if your job needs you to sit in front of a computer for extended periods of time, develop the habit of taking quick breaks by gazing at something far away or green.

Bottom line

Similar to black patches on the skin, darkened spots under your eyes are influenced by a variety of variables, including genetics, aging, and lifestyle choices. It can also be caused by allergies, nutrient deficiency, or other medical conditions.

Dark circles can be treated using natural therapies. A healthy lifestyle, which includes adequate rest, well-balanced nutrition, and sufficient hydration, can help to avoid dark circles.
